Meet our team

Dr. Mathis is from south Georgia, having graduated from Berrien County High School. After attending Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, he pursued his education at the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where he met his future bride. Following his graduation in 1994, Dr. Mathis returned to south Georgia to practice large and small animal medicine. In 1997, Dr. Mathis and his wife, April, started Live Oak Veterinary Associates in Moultrie, Georgia. In April 2013, Dr. Mathis and Dr. Richard Garcia merged practices, and Southside Veterinary Center was established. Dr. Mathis and his wife (who is a doctor as well) have a son and a daughter. His outside interests include church, riding, as well as piddling in the yard.

Dr. April Mathis began practicing in 1995 after graduating from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, especially the opportunity to partner with pet owners to ensure quality of life for their pets as they age. In her free time, Dr. Mathis enjoys running, biking, swimming, and hiking. She also enjoys reading, traveling, and playing The Settlers of Catan. Dr. Mathis and her husband, Marty, compete in triathlons together and they love spending time with their family.
